Brookhaven levies $10,000 fine to apartment management company

Post Date:08/25/2017 11:21 AM

Brookhaven, GA, Aug. 25, 2017 – Brookhaven recently collected its largest code enforcement judgement in the City’s history:  $10,000.

“The living conditions at some of the apartment complexes in Brookhaven are so deplorable that they are immoral,” said City Manager Christian Sigman.  “No one should have to live this way, especially not Brookhaven residents.  We will continue to enforce our codes and hold property owners accountable until these conditions at least meet a minimum legal standard.”

The Brookstone Crossing Apartment Homes at 2010 Curtis Drive NE in Brookhaven have been the subject of multiple code enforcement actions.

Sunshine Property Management operates the Brookstone Crossing Apartments at 2010 Curtis Drive and the Brookstone Gardens Apartments at 3549 Buford Highway.  The management company paid $10,000 on Aug. 14 for a variety of infractions, including no business license, unsatisfactory interior conditions and exterior structural deficiencies between their two Brookhaven locations.  The $10,000 fine is the largest one-day code enforcement judgement levied in a single court action since the incorporation of the City of Brookhaven.  This brings the total to approximately $21,000 in fines collected from this management company.

“We have had a long history of complaints, citations and fines at these locations,” said Community Development Director Patrice Ruffin.  “I hope that property owners get the message that these conditions are not acceptable, and we intend to keep working to ensure compliance.”
